Chosen as one of Time Magazine’s top 10 websites of the 2006!

January 9th, 2007 by ed_park

Along with sites such as Google Calendar and Newsvine, earthalbum made it onto Time Magazine’s Top 10 websites of the year! I’m not sure it’s deserving of the honor, but I’ll take it. :)

I have been using the web for over 15 years and I want to tell you that it takes a lot to impress me. But your work on this site is one of the best I have seen in all of my 15 years of using the web. It is on par with the introduction of the Mac, iPhone and PC.

What you have done, perhaps without knowing it, is created a site that really shows how small our planet really is. It exposes us to other cultures and rituals in a manner that is completely natural. We fly from Canada to Ethiopia, then back to Italy, then South Africa and then Australia, stopping off in New Guinea. We see the colors and the landscapes of all of these worlds. We see the people, the countryside, the humanity. It is all there.

There are few sites that bring tears to my eyes and yours is one of them. I feel absolutely honored to be able to visit a site such as this. My kids use it to see other countries in the world and how the indigenous people live; reviewing and seeing their cultures. This is absolutely amazing.

You are more than deserving of the Time magazine honor. It is the best of 2006. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

    Rick.

    Rick–

Thanks for the kind words. The worldwide response to the site has been overwhelming, and I’m glad that I’ve been able to make the earth a tad smaller.

As a kid, I used to have a globe; I’d look at countries like India and New Guinea and wonder what the land looked like, how the people in them lived. If this site has brought us just a tad closer to that reality, I’ll consider it a success.

Im writing here because I don’t know where to or whom to write.

Dubrovnik (city) is in Croatia, not in Bosnia like this website says. I tryed searching for it and when it was found there was ‘Bosnia’ by its name. Dubrovnik is in Croatia, so make it right.

And one more thing, it is not ‘Bosnia’ it is ‘Bosnia and Hercegovina’.
